NOT TO SMILE

위키문헌 ― 우리 모두의 도서관.

Let us not smile for there is nothing to smile upon, No bright prospect will beguile us into a smile though how gullible we are. So far, smile is a taboo to US at present at least. Smile often means a relax, a resignation, even content and consent. In a world, in a time, the Red specter (not Capitalist specter) stalks the face of the earth, menacing, harassing, infesting the whole Free World in every conceivable and contrivable
ways and means: in every nook it lurks and through every cranny it sneaks in, how one can be smug, placid and smile self-contentedly? Under the
Reds' menace, big or small, strong or weak, are the self-same possible victims! That's to say, in a same boat in a same perilous sea!

Let there be no wranglings, bickerings among our allied countries and the Free World at large in losing-every-inch speculations. Absolutely and positively there can be no separate issue, only one front and common aim and goal will mend and heal our present woe and discomfiture and lead us to a complete victory. So far, instead of relax, let us gird up our loins and ever ready for any unforeseen disasters the infidel and perfidious Communist aggressors may enact!

In conclusion, let me quote Victor Hugo, the great French poet and novelist's famous words-“.. He did not smile, but he used to laugh, sometimes
indeed frequently, a bitter laugh. There is consent in a smile, while a laugh is often a refusal."
